Well I went down to the college the other day just to see what I could see. hopin’ to find a little open mind, and some people tryin’ to be free. But when I got there they’d all cut their hair, and shaved their beards off too, and they looked at me like I was a tree, somebody said “Who’re you?” Well I said “Whaddya mean? You know this ain’t no dream that we’re livin’ in every day! There’s people dyin’ little babies cryin’. is that all you’ve got to say?” Well VietNams done, but there’s new wars now, and you still got your right to vote. But you’re just gonna rest and forget the mess while they cram it all down your throat. Well I’m tellin’ you it ain’t over yet, you still got your debt. Hey society’s fool, you better play it cool ‘cause there’s a noose around your neck. And I, I told you, I told you, I told you. Starin’ at your TV sets, you’ve fallen on your knees. Wonderin’ where the hell you’re at you ask the media, “Please! I want to hear some truth before I go and die! C’mon and tell me somethin’ else besides a plastic lie. Well it’s about time for turnin’ round. Time to show the world what we have found. Time to open the doors to just a little more life, ‘cause it’s the end of time, near the end of strife. And I, I told you, I told you, I told you. Well you’re goin’ far in your daddy’s car, and he’s payin’ your way through school. You got your grass, and there ain’t no draft, so you’re thinkin’ that you’re playin’ it cool. Well while you’re sittin’ in class you can bet your ass, I’m out here bein’ free, and all you nine-to-fives can’t save your lives while you exist in such apathy. Now I know this generation is gonna see the sign up in the sky, but if you’re found dead upon your mournin’ bed then there’s no need for you to wonder why. ‘Cause the wind has blown, the seed has sown, and the tree is ready to bloom. In the comin’ night we’re gonna need the light, So go out and find some room to grow in, So we may know the way to go in From yesterday, tomorrow, all the way to today. So we may know the way.
